Up next in my Fun Time for Baby and Me series is a simple marble run with a shoebox. Good thing shoes come in sturdy boxes that can be put to other uses!<br />
<br />
A marble run is where you provide a path for marbles to roll from a starting point where you drop the marble and then let gravity do it's work. How fun you build a path is all up to you. The beauty of it is watching the marbles roll and along the way make those little jumps over gaps or mini-obstacles that you create.<br />
<br />
It took me 20 minutes overall to make it and my little played with it. Lots of fun and peals of laughter for every run ! The game she made of it was to see how many times it didn't follow the expected path :)) Go figure!<br />
<br />
Stuff you need :<br />
Shoe box<br />
Scissors<br />
Knife<br />
Glue<br />
Marbles/Chinese Checker Balls<br />
<br />
The shoe box will hold the structure of the "rails"/"path" for the marble run. I made the rails from the shoe box lid. Each piece of rail has 3 sides to it - the rail path and the 2 sides flanking left and right to keep the marble from flying off and of course to help glue it to the box.<br />
<br />
I made 4 pieces of rail and arranged them alternately from right up - left down and then left up - right down.<br />
<br />
Use a knife(or if you wish, the scissor) to make a hole at the right corner top from where you drop the marble.<br />
<br />
Check the marble run and see if the angles need to be adjusted before the glue completely dries.<br />
<br />
And voila, its marbles away !<br />
<br />

I think there's a basic need for novelty that we all have and more so with kids I feel! As wonderful as it would be to buy something new everyday, Yes yes, I know, that's as practical as it sounds ;-P !<br />
But what about using something to help us see it in a new light.<br />
<br />
So, here I have a few things that we've done at home(at least the few with photographs)<br />
<br />
<b><u>CLOTHESPINS/CLIPS</u></b><br />
<br />
Buying new clothespins / clips turned into half an hour of fun play time for the little one! It really is true, we actually don't need to spend money on toys, when everything can be a plaything! It started with little one asking, what do we do with this? And I said we use it to pin the clothes to the wire so the clothes won't fly away if the wind is too strong. And she says how?<br />
So, I put one on her shirt to give a practical explanation. And voila the Clips Game was born !!<br />
I turned around to put away the other grocery items and I was back to see lines and lines of clips arranged on her shirt!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-Vs0fXSpQZmRIzilBXxB1n7epmYh46h3oVID0EefCGyym3aSSdgPRjuKapyjYT9-xA2pYhfia7pgHefLDDuqkXZiw90mO3QN5hMyyHCCRZsFOIGhInCN_OCIXxWs8AxjBYm95t-RVSeQ/s1600/Clips.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1246" data-original-width="997" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-Vs0fXSpQZmRIzilBXxB1n7epmYh46h3oVID0EefCGyym3aSSdgPRjuKapyjYT9-xA2pYhfia7pgHefLDDuqkXZiw90mO3QN5hMyyHCCRZsFOIGhInCN_OCIXxWs8AxjBYm95t-RVSeQ/s640/Clips.jpg" width="512" /></a></div>
<br />
She used it to learn organisation, it was a repeat building block for learning basic color names and of course the dexterity required !<br />
<div>
<br />
<br />
<br /></div>
<b><i>SKETCH PENS</i></b><br />
<br />
Use Sketch Pens/Pens/Pencils to make car race tracks. The little one was fascinated that we could make the cars race inside tracks :)) After the newness wore off, she didn't want to be restricted by such small space, but hey, it was 40 mins of something new!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5UL1KRrRmz3nvAFm6dOwIimRVkve3FncI7eo4I_tzrAyvuhXm8v0lQne2rJKncU4t3CcLRg4GpXhvJSbmK7X2xHFc68AV_K_1SuaySMbbtVkyzQQhW4Hiv6eM3EDbF0m1OpVcd0Alsfo/s1600/Car+Lanes.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="570" data-original-width="456" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5UL1KRrRmz3nvAFm6dOwIimRVkve3FncI7eo4I_tzrAyvuhXm8v0lQne2rJKncU4t3CcLRg4GpXhvJSbmK7X2xHFc68AV_K_1SuaySMbbtVkyzQQhW4Hiv6eM3EDbF0m1OpVcd0Alsfo/s640/Car+Lanes.jpg" width="512" /></a></div>
<br />
<b><u>WRAPPING PAPER</u></b><br />
<br />
Another fun find for me was a Gift Wrapping Paper with Alphabets on it. Got it for 10 or 20 Rs, put it up on the wall and voila!, the little one was figuring out what item was on each alphabet. It wasn't intended that she learn the alphabet through it, but I guess some stuff did trickle through. The vibrant colors and cartoon style images made a difference.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiQ1MnmoJy0GhqxacBT61SxDiRqLt4BJ-dmh1fwf2qP8Jkg_l9mwBcrv_Vi4Q_CgHqQySOprAJe2ZWnLjpWCysO-cMsW_79c4a37rok8EFu8OyrLA4OpVvT3RuM9IHmrPvTouaj69AZcM/s1600/wrapping.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="900" data-original-width="1600" height="360" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiQ1MnmoJy0GhqxacBT61SxDiRqLt4BJ-dmh1fwf2qP8Jkg_l9mwBcrv_Vi4Q_CgHqQySOprAJe2ZWnLjpWCysO-cMsW_79c4a37rok8EFu8OyrLA4OpVvT3RuM9IHmrPvTouaj69AZcM/s640/wrapping.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
My next picture shows 2 activities combined together -<br />
<u><b>BALLOONS </b></u><br />
1) Balloons, some string(I used satin ribbon as that was closer by to me if I remember right :)) ) and a doorway ! I tied up the balloons with the ribbon and cello-taped it to the door frame. I told her to tap them and see how the bounce back and she came up with her own spin on it . She would come through the door moving the balloons as if it were a curtain, it was a brilliant idea ! And also, she had a ball trying to catch them every time they moved as the wind blew - that was a benefit of being the doorway.<br />
<br />
<b><u>STACKING RINGS</u></b><br />
2) I had a set of Chennapatna stacking rings with me that she would use for well stacking up. But with a shoelace in hand with knots and twists and turns through the iron grill on our balcony, the little one learnt to move the loops along the wire, through the grill - following the path, over coming any obstacles in the way. I thought she would learn a little bit of problem solving this way, but we ended up with a mini-lesson on Gravity ! She would let a ring fall from the highest point and it would settle down in the middle of the "rope" instead of climbing back up to the next loop around the grill and she would wonder why? And I was actually not expecting the question. So, comical expression on my face followed by Ah! its time for Newton and the Apple story!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgbYGpgCBbk_BEXsv0qfYIe3p1GsMkhkXocr0GJ4H02T5xOb5jAeymL-8zV8fnkm3iodyyRS7mUhfEPxpZTMuHXPwVbQYQucTp11OY3Wo131xagdCQkmI00AxuxgyT7cOThTK3dPbEZLQ/s1600/balcony.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="900" data-original-width="1600" height="360" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgbYGpgCBbk_BEXsv0qfYIe3p1GsMkhkXocr0GJ4H02T5xOb5jAeymL-8zV8fnkm3iodyyRS7mUhfEPxpZTMuHXPwVbQYQucTp11OY3Wo131xagdCQkmI00AxuxgyT7cOThTK3dPbEZLQ/s640/balcony.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
P.S. As you can see the picture captures her focused on a piece of paper at her feet ! So, do take heart in knowing that as fantastic as some things we do for kids may seem to us, they will have their attention on something new as soon as they find it!<br />
<br />
<b><u>BALLS</u></b><br />
<b><u><br /></u></b>
We have bunch of balloons and balls lying around home at any given point. And they make for endless number of games, here, me and the little one were working on the concept of sizes. Organising all the balls in ascending order and descending order. It was fun to explain to her logically how to arrange things that are the same size. She quite like the idea of "Put all the ones of same size in any order" :)) She wanted there to be a system to organise the same sized ones too !<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXnOyFkTx5XDpKLNRhSsCA326_ewnIwNqfszlim01GW-dDcfQgMhUMeJuFMIvI-Z8y7V2VRfnj_xDEsTC9dheXer8PG_9fcHEbJQXAFa8EAgSWm5jZUpKcNUUgjSHGygEvb5URspb92m8/s1600/Balls.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="800" data-original-width="1121" height="285" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXnOyFkTx5XDpKLNRhSsCA326_ewnIwNqfszlim01GW-dDcfQgMhUMeJuFMIvI-Z8y7V2VRfnj_xDEsTC9dheXer8PG_9fcHEbJQXAFa8EAgSWm5jZUpKcNUUgjSHGygEvb5URspb92m8/s400/Balls.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<b><u>NETTED FRUIT CONTAINERS</u></b><br />
<b><br /></b>
Have you bought Groundnuts or Regikayalu in those orange bags that look like nets? They are a fantastic compact way for the vendors to stock items - fixed weight and fixed price for us! Turns out they are amazing at helping the little ones build dexterity ! Not to mention, patience building.<br />
And it is true, once you take it out, it seems wondrous how much fit into the bag and it is a tough ask to put everything back in. Here, the little one was picking up groundnuts one at a time and packing it back in ! She like doing it for a while, then she started scooping stuff in with a spoon at first and then with her hands.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZCqDazouc4a_wNaTox5ycZ6vsdgOKpTXrluQjm4bSVdqBJTsYF06ZVoSxanYLtmEWWSnx4tuUgO2nMVQDpVKFNPEOV3JfmTE7Ly1VWGioKKnHxfASAWrGvfcXDJzic-VJhJFn3iGICVs/s1600/GroundNuts.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1280" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZCqDazouc4a_wNaTox5ycZ6vsdgOKpTXrluQjm4bSVdqBJTsYF06ZVoSxanYLtmEWWSnx4tuUgO2nMVQDpVKFNPEOV3JfmTE7Ly1VWGioKKnHxfASAWrGvfcXDJzic-VJhJFn3iGICVs/s640/GroundNuts.jpg" width="510" /></a></div>
<br />
Well, that's all for today folks ! See you next time with more of these! </div>

Being a stay at home mom really motivates one to come up with fun ways to interact with the baby.<br />
What better way to keep a baby engaged than showing them new things and playing new games that are fun for them and occasionally we can sneak in some learning too!<br />
<br />
I've spent endless time on the net (Pinterest mostly, those guys absolutely rock!) finding things to do and then many a time trying to find alternatives to items mentioned, so I can source the activity materials locally. All the times I've not done things because I didn't have some basic building block. Sigh. Times have changed now, and its so easy to find things even at the corner kirana wallah. So yayy!<br />
<br />
With every activity we do, other than getting brownie points from my little one for being so full of fun activities(shhh let me enjoy that before she truly understands the power of Pinterest :D) , I realise we more or less end up turning the wheel again. Many a thing were what my mom and grandma played with me when I was young. And so, the joy is two-fold - there's a sense of nostalgia and there's a feeling of doing something extremely this generation based.<br />
<br />
So, here's kickstarting my Fun Time for Baby and Me Series with something from the past. My grandparents stayed in a small town by the Godavari and summer holidays meant frolicking in the waters, building smooth stone collections and using the riverside clay for building matchbox lorries! The wheels used to turn too!<br />
<br />
What we used:<br />
Soap Boxes<br />
Play Doh / (alternate)Bubble Blower Lids<br />
Sticks from Paraka / (alternate)mini barbeque sticks / (alternate) toothpicks<br />
(Make sure you break off the pointy edges)<br />
Glue<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjF1GKuFLbvRnWiPIYbVD_zcqKQbC2FpCm0_e0Y_QheNirww8-LWKzv81fJY_IBwg5NLKdVGkjkvig-o7E9nvN9HZB_a_S6ZwgNO3AuROKpFLN4zR9GtRcbdVsiCy_TbDi3l-6EN9QDOlg/s1600/Lorry.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1201" data-original-width="901" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjF1GKuFLbvRnWiPIYbVD_zcqKQbC2FpCm0_e0Y_QheNirww8-LWKzv81fJY_IBwg5NLKdVGkjkvig-o7E9nvN9HZB_a_S6ZwgNO3AuROKpFLN4zR9GtRcbdVsiCy_TbDi3l-6EN9QDOlg/s640/Lorry.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Here you can see my little one use it to transport vehicles. She turned it into pretend play beyond my limited "Lets make a lorry".<br />
So, no real clay no worries, use play doh clay. Have only 3 boxes, its alright to have a futuristic car and no place for the driver's box :))<br />
And once you are done, let your child's imagination take over - what can we move from one forest to another, how can an elephant outrun a tiger and a cheetah without getting tired and what not!<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />

Well, here's a first for me, I put up cards for sale on <a href="http://myths-creations.itshandmade.in/">myths-creations.itshandmade.in</a>. I had planned to make in on the love theme to time it for Valentine's nothing too sappy of course and I rather like the stuff I came up with if I say so myself :)<br />
Of course its almost all quilled cards, I finally used the stamps my brother gifted me(thanks bro!) , a little bit of doilies and I finally found a way to get text on my handmade cards. I am so jealous of all the crafters who have amazing writing skills and don't need to think twice !<br />
Wish me luck!<br />

So, I made 2 quilled items in photo frames with the names of 2 little girls for their birthdays.<br />
The 1st one I used Alphabet stickers and managed to finish it in less than an hour. Yup, as I was putting on my sandals for leaving to the party, I was trying to get the frame into wrapping paper !!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiUAZvHt2yZTuBQTvth-KraQGSxEDs0JHskwFCUJpWhKbYkb2CanhgGYJEjwAUMU4nzmXtGfL5EQmjybhyjFzGyuvPYd1n2mBYAmcaF7zkgw7zPsRCE11sS1nt8X2ITsYX5yFG-oqC13Hg/s1600/IMG_1809.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiUAZvHt2yZTuBQTvth-KraQGSxEDs0JHskwFCUJpWhKbYkb2CanhgGYJEjwAUMU4nzmXtGfL5EQmjybhyjFzGyuvPYd1n2mBYAmcaF7zkgw7zPsRCE11sS1nt8X2ITsYX5yFG-oqC13Hg/s1600/IMG_1809.JPG" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The 2nd one was a little more pre-planned. I got a photo printed with just the name on it as text, put it into the frame and then quilled on it. The flowers were inspired from <a href="https://www.etsy.com/in-en/listing/91093423/wall-art-wild-carrot-flowers-and?ref=sr_gallery_3&sref=&ga_ref=auto&ga_search_query=quilling+art&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_ship_to=US&ga_search_type=handmade&ga_facet=handmade" target="_blank">Inna's Creations' Wild carrot flowers</a>, though of course as usual, they look nothing like the original:)) Making all those curls is time consuming, looking at the picture, we might not realise.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPwMsBZkn6R4LqFxpFqeZZsTZCW6ZimLQp_VZNkymzYiRqeKuE74p9EsiDZ1n_oR3kOwzPbuZxhgkCJKjxIPloqhFSUnh7ToPY0BlXvoF-B4ffZ1xZ90sxx_tPANfk5lZJgswADnhFA5U/s1600/IMG_5344.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPwMsBZkn6R4LqFxpFqeZZsTZCW6ZimLQp_VZNkymzYiRqeKuE74p9EsiDZ1n_oR3kOwzPbuZxhgkCJKjxIPloqhFSUnh7ToPY0BlXvoF-B4ffZ1xZ90sxx_tPANfk5lZJgswADnhFA5U/s1600/IMG_5344.JPG" height="478" width="640" /></a><br />
Weirdly enough, I did not get feedback from both parties about these gifts :( I do hope they liked it though ...<br />
<br />
<br />
And this last one was at my sister's request for her friend. I've tried quilling a pink and gold orchid. The orchid, I think looks nice. Not too happy about the look on the frame though.<br />
<br />

So, I wanted to make something for my hubby's birthday. He had said "No cake this time." The Mr is watching the weight and what not :) But whats a birthday without cake ? And so I wondered and wondered how to make a cake that's not a cake and voila !<br />
<br />
Here it is ...<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgupAS1VGw5cV8VFisGU5Qcca2oxsjoNw-mvYJA5nNHDD-o9_kBPe21cVDwIa9AKDlXR5EtN1EOesMTHXOtQ2DjjvKZRZGr-1ACcBRecQLRt8xIqSlQNbQJCWbNRYkcG9oYlPTelejN6q8/s1600/IMG_0320.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgupAS1VGw5cV8VFisGU5Qcca2oxsjoNw-mvYJA5nNHDD-o9_kBPe21cVDwIa9AKDlXR5EtN1EOesMTHXOtQ2DjjvKZRZGr-1ACcBRecQLRt8xIqSlQNbQJCWbNRYkcG9oYlPTelejN6q8/s640/IMG_0320.JPG" height="584" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I got a free printable template from <><br />
I dug into the papers that I had and went with a gold-based theme for the paper cake.<br />
The small flowers arranged in a shifted circle are from a punch - this paper is off-white with gold-colored patterns on it. And finally for a pop of color, red roses :)<br />

So, we had a little get-together and it was the perfect opportunity for me to make the return gift-bags extra special. I wanted white paper bags so any color would look good on it but we could only find grey.<br />
Here goes ... Some quilled flowers(sunflower and Susan's beehive ), punched flowers arranged with a piece of string, and whatever I could lay my hands on. Didn't get all the pics though, I actually forgot to photograph all the bags :(<br />
I actually saw people notice the designs and girl came up to me and said, she would make sure they re-use the bag. Yayyyy for paper bags ! 2 guys looked at each others' bag and one said " I want your design" and they actually exchanged bags! yahooo ! And one aunty actually came and asked us where we bought them coz she had a function coming up. Now that's the ultimate compliment isn't it ... So, here's to crafting on gift wrapping !<br />

Some earrings that I had made a while ago but hadn't taken proper pictures then .... And then they were sold, so a couple of these are the pics from before they turned into earrings :)<br />
<br />
This one looks like some sort of mechanical gears and grease earrings, with a metallic touch ! I was trying to get 2 colors one on the inside and one on the outside to see how the colors would look and well, not too shabby eh ;)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
My first attempt at the Royal Flower, had a little tough time getting all the lengths same every time and I actually realised how much patience I had ( For those of you who don't know me, I'm the sort who can't stand waiting 1 minute for the microwave to heat food , ha ha ) And I believe this was the first earring sold that day. So yayyy .<br />
<br />

This quick and easy to make tutorial from <a href="http://foldingtrees.com/2008/08/flower-week-tissue-paper-carnations/" target="_blank">Folding Trees</a> was just the perfect thing when I couldn't find carnations for my in-laws' anniversary. And my MIL still has them on her center table .. yayyy ..<br />
<br />
And did I tell you, I looooooove coloring the edges, it makes the flower look so much more authentic !<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Takes under 10 minutes to make that extra something to make your gift wrapping pop. Not that most people notice though :( But when they do, oh joy.<br />

<br />
These 'flowers' are from a tutorial that I don't remember the source of, I saw it really long ago. They are similar to the Martha Stewart crafts tutorial but with multiple colours .. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Just a very simple quilled flower (if you will) added to the gift tag.<br />

<div>I kept to basic quilling shapes for filling up the letters and tried to find an animal for each letter, well at least as close as I could manage :) </div><div><br />
</div><div>Step 1 : Create the letters. </div><div><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpSlmZ1ANpe2wELASBDFQXLHLeVWBGNSe1-fZMrWPGzy_7ohqeZfc1W8uBmaV5YaMI8EPAEw9xpqhWRHmdmI-y0sR6t1MU_QP6d5pJnU_1rYRznK0C3HJArQaUiVsIewRDLksQxgHvt-E/s1600/1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpSlmZ1ANpe2wELASBDFQXLHLeVWBGNSe1-fZMrWPGzy_7ohqeZfc1W8uBmaV5YaMI8EPAEw9xpqhWRHmdmI-y0sR6t1MU_QP6d5pJnU_1rYRznK0C3HJArQaUiVsIewRDLksQxgHvt-E/s640/1.jpg" width="478" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div>Step 2 : I traced out the letters onto the canvas / card and stuck the quilling paper along the edge vertical (as opposed to flat on the card) </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhv1eAbeSi3rDnjemyea2CULZ6d38uyoMhXzYTjqc3WJ7YdWZ39oB8zXXL9pHgMU1bW0pn9C8_Ds98VcIdZzYUmtMzLcvIg_HasflK5bBve0e5CKkzJhY7gSAup8Ecn57TZ-GZZeY2egJw/s1600/2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="470" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhv1eAbeSi3rDnjemyea2CULZ6d38uyoMhXzYTjqc3WJ7YdWZ39oB8zXXL9pHgMU1bW0pn9C8_Ds98VcIdZzYUmtMzLcvIg_HasflK5bBve0e5CKkzJhY7gSAup8Ecn57TZ-GZZeY2egJw/s640/2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div><br />
</div><div>Voila, all the letters done ! </div><div><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhM9z8UrIgcQU_Pb5kQOx9_v0HHeIhLldPHJ9RnxdBv89EAzfy8uvCuRT1K_GIkxSmzRhRQXcoOiMagHzZeT7BhrwHfcI7dVcJmtGcpSO0gnAwz2nk9grAchIrjOPKXTan0dg47c39W8ps/s1600/3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="467" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhM9z8UrIgcQU_Pb5kQOx9_v0HHeIhLldPHJ9RnxdBv89EAzfy8uvCuRT1K_GIkxSmzRhRQXcoOiMagHzZeT7BhrwHfcI7dVcJmtGcpSO0gnAwz2nk9grAchIrjOPKXTan0dg47c39W8ps/s640/3.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div><br />
</div><div>Step 3 : Make quilled animals for the letters ... This was the fun bit ! </div><div><br />
</div><div>V for Wolf ( or Volf? he he , close enough) Didn't quill this one though. </div><div>The filling in the V is with quilled cubes / squares with alternating blues, yellows and creams.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgroGasJMKb_p2TkqWsT7YQOdHDwzCoXJas2C2Jf9Cib2l3giwaIvXSHCdo-sZiky5ojQMKHCW03vHk6gG8rdbh1sYQK3yEWLKqNBgmtBRUxQZhg1jK0BJ7hWhcRzMtEb2DUPzII-ER3jI/s1600/4.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgroGasJMKb_p2TkqWsT7YQOdHDwzCoXJas2C2Jf9Cib2l3giwaIvXSHCdo-sZiky5ojQMKHCW03vHk6gG8rdbh1sYQK3yEWLKqNBgmtBRUxQZhg1jK0BJ7hWhcRzMtEb2DUPzII-ER3jI/s640/4.JPG" width="556" /></a></div><div><br />
</div><div>N For Neelu ( creative license in using the Telugu translation for Water here :) ) So, the quilled crab and quilled fish are the sea creatures. </div><div>The N is filled with crimped quilling paper cut and stuck vertically. The problem with scrapbooking is not the idea or the template, not even the colors , its always where can I get that beautiful pattern paper. Scrapbookers seem to have an endless supply of beautiful papers and it's never just one paper , the beauty of each scrap-page is the layers, so many matching papers all laid one upon another with embellishments enhancing the page ! I just love looking at these amazing things that people call scrapbooks.<br />
When I finally gathered the courage to try, I realised , I had no idea how to do it or what to do. What colors do I chose. How should the layout look? How do I put text on the card?<br />
All I had was the basic idea that I was going to make a scrapbook type card for a hubby's work friend's send off from office because he was going back to school and it needed to be big enough for 50 people to sign their good luck messages :)<br />
<br />
I started with green color (because that's currently the color that's catching my eye the most. Does it happen to you too, I go through phases of colors that are my faves, I end up buying clothes/decorative items/ papers of all blues or oranges or pinks or whatever I like during that phase. Ha ha )<br />
I had no way of putting text on the card( I have a terrible handwriting and cannot draw freehand if my life depended on it . :( ) So, I looked for images that had text I wanted to convey.<br />
And then I looked through all the decorative/patterned paper I had and found one that matched with my green and didn't look too girly. (Oh and let me tell you this, making something for women is soooooo much more easier than making a card for a guy. I think that applies to getting gifts for occasions too doesn't it? Girls are just easier to shop for!)<br />
<br />
After I finished placing the elements in a hundred ways together, I wasn't quite happy until I finally decided on this.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjU0jD1HPiJl3N1_AONMo6Qcl-H8WJNs-Q5D8Hw3tKiCBR0wtmMqVM0RLLM8EF6xzyJJqje7U4J9VvA6m8ett0q9D2-5y19Yz-6fNUOJ5rSwusoNcm2dStYKL067TsGjB5hi6EXl3OS7mA/s1600/IMG_3729.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="576" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjU0jD1HPiJl3N1_AONMo6Qcl-H8WJNs-Q5D8Hw3tKiCBR0wtmMqVM0RLLM8EF6xzyJJqje7U4J9VvA6m8ett0q9D2-5y19Yz-6fNUOJ5rSwusoNcm2dStYKL067TsGjB5hi6EXl3OS7mA/s640/IMG_3729.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>The elements I have here is patterned paper, my Ek Success punch for the top and bottom of the page, my Martha Stewart Doily punch under the pattern paper and pre-printed alphabet stickers to add that personal touch. <br />
The red satin ribbon was a last minute addition and I think it brings out the brightness element !<br />
<br />
So, here's my Best Wishes Card ala Scrapbook style. Bon Voyage Ashwin ! And have fun :)<br />
<br />
P.S. I now appreciate scrapbookers so much more !</div>mythshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11319999108251458321noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-765174875839130416.post-69541419723336637162012-07-10T23:05:00.000+05:302012-07-10T23:05:47.455+05:30Quilled Flowers Birthday Card For Mom<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">For my mom's birthday this year, I wanted to quill her something really beautiful. The original plan was to be a garden of flowers :) ( I do have that thought still running in my head, I just may have a garden of quilled flowers hanging on my wall someday :) ) I did keep the core of the plan which was to create as many types of flowers as I could and given that my mom loves yellow , the color theme was yellow. I did add some blues to it, to bring out the yellow and it does look like the blues made the whole piece brighter. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I did do a lot of scourging the net, searching for all sorts of quilled flower tutorials. It is amazing the number of super talented people out there making such beautiful creations :) And all with just paper. Who would have thought ! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Thank you guys, you made it possible . And a real big thanks to the internet and Google which is the only reason I chanced upon this art form of quilling that fascinates me endlessly :) </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">So , I ended up making the 'Royal' Flower, the Malaysian Flower, Fringed Flowers, Crimped Flowers, Bell Flowers, little Loop Flowers, little Heart bunched Flowers, a Zinnia (or something close to it :D) , a Vortex Flower, a double-shaded half flower and finally Roses :) I have been meaning to do roses for so long and never found the right way to do, until i stumbled upon <a href="http://increations.blogspot.in/2010/07/how-to-fold-rose.html" target="_blank">Inna's tutorial</a> (who by the way has made like tons of amazing flowers)</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

In the sale that we had, a dad with 3 daughters picked up a hairband and told my husband "There's going to be some fighting at home tonight".<br />
So, I decided, I need to make some more, it took me a week to get the time, and you won't believe it if I told you, but I actually made this on my way to office in the office bus ! Do not ask how I managed :) <br />
Hubby told me that the dad was really really happy that we actually made 2 more specially for him(even though he didn't ask for it) <br />
Yayyyyyy ! Its so nice to make someone happy !<br />

Hiya guys,<br />
<br />
The charity sale was a success !! Our first stall and I am very happy that we managed to raise a decent amount of money. Thanks to all the people who contributed and I do hope the people you gift my handmade beauties to like them. And if you are going to use them yourself , yayyyyy !<br />
I am sure most people there were exposed for the first time to quilling and paper accessories. I had cards, earrings, hairbands and photoframes :) <br />
Quilled Earrings Sale Sale Sale !! (I so wanted to do the vendor call like when they sell tomatoes on a cart) but not this time ;) <br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">I had such a good time making quilled earrings. These are like my first batch of cookies, simple stuff but it makes me happy .</span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">It has been mostly a learning experience for me - sourcing the metal hoops for the earrings in Bangalore , tough job :) But this nice guy in Commercial Street managed to source some for me. Turns out I didnt have the right pliers to tighten the loops after looping the paper through it. I managed to over Mod-Podge some earrings so they look just plain goopy (oh yeah, broke my heart to see a nice quilled earring rendered un-usable). And of course, once the earring was ready, it just wouldnt balance right or it would keep changing direcrtions going sideways or doing a 180 turn ;) What joy !! But I must say, valuable lessons learnt.</span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"> I still have some time to go and have some other plans up my sleeve. Wish me luck, I do hope to be able to make a valuable contribution through my limited skills.</span><br />

Ever since I stumbled across <a href="http://quillingmesoftlee.blogspot.in/" target="_blank">Pritesh's</a> blog, I have been meaning to try the tight coil flowers. She has so many amazing pieces of work and lovely tutorials - boon for beginners like me :)<br />
<br />
So, for my in-laws wedding anniversary, I thought what would be nicer than flowers :) And finally got down to making this.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhITiWABNwrIkFs8csDR36Q5GNLwSongATWNUxeOCvgApUCWgLfuBUGQF2zv_x4MYTzr4zpc8sI3lrSBXIHmB1Rt8KiGVi4YU3cFCZPjNzIBNoFy85vIJxP08Z4EyO4grcfYnEj6YTSxtw/s1600/IMG_3052.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhITiWABNwrIkFs8csDR36Q5GNLwSongATWNUxeOCvgApUCWgLfuBUGQF2zv_x4MYTzr4zpc8sI3lrSBXIHmB1Rt8KiGVi4YU3cFCZPjNzIBNoFy85vIJxP08Z4EyO4grcfYnEj6YTSxtw/s320/IMG_3052.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
I also tried <a href="http://susanquilling.blogspot.in/" target="_blank">Susan's</a> beehive technique that Pritesh has detailed in a tutorial. I didn't really get it right, but am learning :)<br />
<br />
<br />

I think the flower-sticker really jazzed it up :)<br />
